With both Marseille and Villarreal picking up 5-1 wins over the weekend, the first leg of this Europa League tie shouldn’t be short of entertainment. The Yellow Submarine are on the rise, with a 3-1 win at Real Sociedad and that 5-1 victory over Granada pushing them towards La Liga’s top 10.
However, the onus is on Marseille here with the French side largely reliant on their home form. They’ve won their last three home games in the Europa League, conceding in victories over AEK Athens, Ajax and Shakhtar while scoring at least three times in each win.
However, Villarreal topped their group thanks to a 3-2 win at Rennes in their last European game back in December. Their last couple of league results prove they’re still capable going forward, while neither team looks all that convincing defensively. Back at least three goals in this clash, while a 3-2 win for Marseille is my correct score prediction.
