Larne facing tough task after opener
Since an impressive debut European campaign in which Larne reached the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League, the Northern Irish side have struggled to make an impact on the continental stage.
Tiernan Lynch’s men continued that trend with a 3-0 defeat away to Latvian side Rigas FC last week and they look unlikely to overturn that deficit in this second leg.
Larne have now lost six of their last eight European matches and drawn the other two. By contrast Rigas have won 12 of their last 13 games in all competitions and were in cruise control for much of the first leg.
The visitors competed in the Europa Conference League group stages a few years ago, just the second Latvian side to do so, and they faced off against the likes of Fiorentina and Hearts.
They put that experience to good use in the first leg and look likely to follow up with another success in the second.
Both teams may score
Rigas are in the middle of their domestic season and their sharpness told in the first game. They look en route to another title and can pick up another win in this one.
Both teams have scored in five of the away team’s last seven European road trips and the same may well happen here.
