It all started with extremely mistaken signing of the Sports Director Mäki in the off-season. He signed then a coach who had no license and was fond of the theoretical approach to the game, the team spent a lot of hours watching videos and playing small field games learning the ball possession game. Now that the transfer window has been open HJK have been signing and kicking out players on daily basis, some of the new players should be good, but they are new, they are not joined into the team which was already full of good players, only the team was weak.
How are the results then?
HJK have won once out of last five games, away at the weak Mariehamn IFK side.
The main goal this season was to do well in the Champion's league. What happened? They were badly beaten by Panevezys who are the bottom team at the Lithuanian league, which in general is even weaker than Finnish Premier!
The results follow the performances well, but looking at the players alone HJK should be a big favourite always at home.
Now they are not.
What about Haka?
Very little was expected from them before the season. It has a small budget, unknown players, and a completely new foreign coach with a mediocre CV.
And they are almost equal with HJK in the table, chasing the title! They have overperformed their xG-data, but they keep on winning games, and it brings positive energy and effort to the team. They have no European games, and this is the best time ever to face HJK away
