A real buzz is expected in and around Stadion Feijenoord on Saturday evening when the top two Eredivisie teams are set to lock horns in a massive six-pointer in Gameweek No 22.
Feyenoord are the current Eredivisie leaders with 46 points from 21 games. AZ are two points shy in second place, while the likes of Ajax and PSV Eindhoven are also within a two-point distance down in third and fourth respectively.
AZ Alkmaar announced the derby in the best possible fashion. They bagged five unanswered goals in the first half of the last Friday’s drubbing of Excelsior at AFAS Stadion.
Evangelos Pavlidis, Jens Odgaard, Jesper Karlsson, and Sven Mijnans were all super-inspired in the final third, combining for all five goals between themselves on the occasion.
Alkmaar thus returned to winning ways after back-to-back draws to Utrecht and Volendam. They have scored four or more goals in three of the previous four league games and their red-hot offensive line will certainly cause problems to Feyenoord’s defense on Saturday.
