After a successful outing in Europe Sevilla will face Rayo Vallecano in the league. Sevilla's fortunes have changed over the last few weeks, some time ago, they were fighting for their survival in the bottom three but now they have a very clear path to enter into the top 10. After their recent showings in the last few weeks Sevilla's odds shouldn't be this high but I am going to take the advantage and back them to win or draw against Rayo Vallecano. Here are the basis for my selection:
[1] Sevilla knows their way around Rayo Vallecano. It's fair to see why I've backed Sevilla here, as Rayo Vallecano has a very poor record against Sevilla. They have been victorious in 10 out of 15 games against Rayo Vallecano, in fact, Sevilla has not lost a game at this ground in more than a decade. Rayo Vallecano has only two wins out of 15 contests with Sevilla. A 67% win rate is enough to convince me to back Sevilla to win but for a safer bet, I would like to go for a win or draw in favour of Sevilla.
[2] Sevilla has one of the best teams outside the top four. Jorge Sampaoli has a lot of players at his disposal with the likes of Ivan Rakitic and Jesus Navas forming a well experienced part of the team. Sevilla is also not lacking exciting talents with Bryan Gil returning from Tottenham Hotspur to give Sevilla a good attacking threat down the left. Sevilla has scored more goals from open play than Rayo Vallecano in the league this season despite starting the year with their key attackers injured. Yacine Bonou was one of the best goalkeepers at the FIFA 2022 World Cup and he is expected to start in goal for Sevilla.
[3] A big win in midweek over PSV Eindhoven was enough for Sevilla to show their outstanding quality. They have won their last two games by a good margin, 2-0 and 3-0. They clearly have the momentum and would try to push into the top ten when they clash with Rayo Vallecano.
