Tagged as the biggest fixture in German football this weekend, Bayern Munich and Union Berlin would meet for the second time in the Bundesliga at the Allianz Arena. Both teams are harboring dreams of lifting the title at the end of the season and both of the have done well but I'm backing Bayern Munich to win for the following reasons;
[1] Bayern Munich at home is a different team and they are a very formidable side at home. This venue has handed out defeats to the best teams in Europe this season like Barcelona and Inter Milan. Bayern Munich has played ten matches at home in the Bundesliga and no team has been able to win them on their home ground. I'm comfortable with a home win which has been the case in 60% of Bayern Munich's games at the Allianz Arena. Coincidentally, Union Berlin struggled on their last road trip, drawing blank against Ajax. There is not much teams can do when they play away to Bayern Munich, and I think the hosts cannot escape a defeat in this game.
[2] Bayern Munich's quality is already an added advantage for the hosts. Despite the fact that both teams are level on points, the Bavarians are the better side and I wouldn't hesitate to get on them against Union Berlin. They have a lot of superstars and recently they were able to replace the injured Manuel Neuer with Yan Sommer from Borussia Monchengladbach. This difference in squad quality is a major reason why Bayern Munich has dominated the meetings between these two teams. Union Berlin has failed to win in each of their last seven games against the Bavarians. Union Berlin's last visit to this stadium was a bad memory for them as they lost 4-0 to Bayern Munich.
Things are getting tight at the top of the German Bundesliga and a lot of teams are still in the title race but like every other season, this is where Bayern Munich shows their strength to pull away from the pack and I'm predicting them to get a fairly comfortable win against Union Berlin.
