St Pauli boosted their hopes of returning to the Bundesliga after a string of victories. They look to have turned their season around and spirits are high in the dressing room. Their next challenge is against a Paderborn team who is also vying for promotion. Both sides look stable heading into this game but my money is on an away win or draw for the following reasons;
FIRST REASON - Current form
St Pauli is on a five game winning streak and have been excellent throughout this year. In fact, they have not dropped points in any competitive game this year. With three wins in their last five matches, Paderborn hasn't done badly but St Pauli is probably the best team in the Bundesliga 2 this year. St Pauli has gotten all possible points in their previous five games and they did so in spectacular fashion with four clean sheets in five games. Paderborn wasn't so excellent in their last game as they had to settle for a point in s game they did very little. St Pauli can go on to win this game as they are in better momentum than Paderborn and on current form, I don't see any team stopping St Pauli's charge to the promotion spots right now.
SECOND REASON
Paderborn and St Pauli met twice in the Bundesliga 2 last season and neither side left with the three points. Both games ended in the same scoreline; 2-2. Paderborn is coming off the back of a draw and they might sit back for a point in this game. Eight games involving St Pauli have ended in draws this season; this is the highest number of a draw result for any team in the German Bundesliga 2. St Pauli might be in red hot form but there is a chance the third meeting between Paderborn and St Pauli ends in a draw. Anyway it goes, I'm confident in a win or draw for St Pauli.
St Pauli hit their fifth consecutive win last week while Paderborn was glad to escape with a draw against Holstein Kiel. I see this game ending in an away win or draw as St Pauli is the better side heading into matchday 23.
