The two teams sit right next to each other and right on the brink of the relegation zone in the Serie A table ahead of the tie.
Spezia are three points above the danger area but a potential defeat here would move them lock on points with Verona who are currently in the bottom-three.
Neither team will enter the game on a high. Spezia are on a streak of seven successive outings without a win across competitions. They have lost five in the process.
Spezia have decided to make a managerial change by appointing Leonardo Semplici as the new head coach following the mentioned negative streak.
