Hoffenheim and Schalke will close the 27th round of Bundesliga in a proper relegation six-pointer on Sunday evening at PreZero Arena in Sinsheim.
The hosts finally produced a couple of successive strong attacking displays. They escaped the red zone thanks to back-to-back wins over Stuttgart and Werder Bremen in the last two rounds.
The team led by Pellegrino Matarazzo are now three points above the danger area and four points above Schalke in 17th place.
Schalke, on the other side, come into this off the back of a tough 0-3 loss at home to Bayer Leverkusen. They have thus terminated a run of eight consecutive league games without a defeat.
Thomas Reis’ men are still struggling to create chances in the final third. Schalke own by far the worst attacking record in the league with 21 goals scored in 26 outings.
We must admit they have improved their defensive performances drastically in 2023. Will the stubborn back line be enough to grant them a result against an in-form opposition on the road, though?
