Finland host Slovenia in one of the crucial Group H affairs in the two teams’ 2024 EURO qualifying campaign.
The Scandinavian outfit bounced back from the inaugural round’s defeat to local rivals Denmark (group favorites) with a huge 0-1 victory over Northern Ireland three days later in Belfast (both games were played in March).
Benjamin Kallman’s first-half strike made the difference for Finland as the outfits were limited to two shots on target apiece in the 90 minutes of action on the occasion.
Markku Kanerva’s men thus ended a streak of three consecutive defeats and they will enter this super-important tie against Slovenia in high spirits.
The big problem for Kanerva will be the absence of a very important Minnesota United midfielder Robin Lod who has undergone surgery.
Slovenia, on the other side, took a maximum of six points from the opening two qualifiers against Kazakhstan and San Marino.
They are now looking ahead of much tougher challenges with the fixtures against Finland and Denmark on Friday and Monday respectively.
Boss Matjaz Kek can be pleased with his team’s improvements in recent defensive displays as Slovenia allowed only two goals in the last four games, each of which they’ve won.
It is important to mention that the visitors will be without their biggest star Jan Oblak who has been sidelined for the last couple of months for Atleti.
