Morocco have failed to find the back of the net in successive friendlies against Peru and Cape Verde. The Atlas Lions will be looking to get back on scoring ways on Saturday afternoon when they visit Johannesburg for the Matchday No 5 of their African Cup of Nations Qualification campaign.
Walid Regragui’s men are leaders of Group K with two wins in two games and a 4-1 goal difference in the process.
This group only has three teams since Zimbabwe have been removed from the qualifying process through suspension.
Morocco have thus already secured a place at the continental competition, sitting five points above Liberia who only have one game left to play.
A draw or a win here would lock the top spot in the group for the Atlas Lions. They do come into the match as pretty big favorites and in a very strong squad.
Most of the team’s stars from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar are available at the moment, including Hakim Ziyech, Sofyan Amrabat, Abdelhamid Sabiri, Youssef En-Nesyri, Achraf Hakimi, Noussair Mazraoui, Nayef Aguerd, Romain Saiis, and Yassine Bounou.
South Africa, on the other side, have much more modest group of players at disposal. Nevertheless, we must underline the fact Bafana Bafana are unbeaten in 16 consecutive AFCON qualifiers on home soil. Can they keep this run alive against the World Cup semifinalists?
