Black Cats may take time to turn a corner
Sunderland’s 1-1 draw at Millwall last weekend stretched the Black Cats’ winless run to three games in the Championship and their dip in form was enough to call time on the services of manager Tony Mowbray.
Sunderland are still on the hunt for a new manager and, with Mowbray having spent 16 months in charge at the Stadium of Light, it’s unlikely to be a quick process.
But, even so, their fortunes are unlikely to change imminently against a West Brom side that have made excellent progress under Carlos Corberan.
The Baggies find themselves fifth in the Championship, five points above Sunderland, having won five of their last seven league matches.
Baggies can bolster playoff hopes
West Brom’s two defeats in that run came against league leaders Leicester and fourth-placed Southampton, with both of those opponents recording 2-1 wins courtesy of late strikes.
The visitors have, however, recorded wins over second-placed Ipswich and playoff rivals Hull since the start of November and they could be overpriced at the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats have plenty of quality but their youthful squad comes with its inconsistencies and they have dropped points in seven of their last nine league games.
So West Brom must make plenty of appeal on the draw-no-bet market and, given both teams have scored in three of Sunderland’s last four at home, a 2-1 away win should appeal to correct-score punters.
