With Genoa unable to finish higher than 11th and with Bologna already assured of a first premier European campaign since the 1964/65 European Cup, there is very little to play for when they two sides meet in their Serie A finales at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Genoa have had a solid return to the Italian top flight – with the 46 points accrued assuring them of a respectable mid-table finish – while they have also won both of their last two league home matches, against Cagliari and Sassuolo respectively.
Bologna meanwhile have thoroughly impressed under Thiago Motta, losing just five Serie A matches all season, and are currently on a run of just one defeat across their last 17 league games – with this defeat coming against runaway champions Inter Milan.
Draws have been a regular fixture of Bologna’s season recently, with five of their last seven ending all square, and another tie could be in store on Friday night. Two of the last three meetings have ended in a draw – with both sides finding the net in each – and another score draw could be on the cards, with a 1-1 final score drawing some appeal.
