Premier Division leaders Shelbourne could be given an uncomfortable evening by Waterford at their Regional Sports Centre home on Thursday.
Shels have won four of their last five games to race a couple of points clear of Derry at the top, suffering only one defeat in their last 10 league games.
But Waterford have won their last four home games and will be out for revenge after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat when the sides last met, albeit it could have been more but for a Man of the Match display by goalkeeper Sam Seargent.
Goals have not flowed when Blues host better sides
The Blues’ recent good home run has come against bottom-half sides and another pattern emerges when their results at home to the top-six comes under the microscope.
Fewer goals have occurred when they have entertained teams that are closer to their own points tally with under 2.5 coming in the last four times that top-six teams have visited Regional Sports Centre.
That trend tallies nicely with the fact that fewer than three goals have been scored in four of Shelbourne’s last five away games.
