USA in need of response
The Olympic football tournament kicked off on Wednesday and the USA head into their second group match against New Zealand in desperate need of a result.
The Americans went down 3-0 to host nation France in their opener, while the OlyWhites claimed a 2-1 win over Guinea and a draw on Saturday may be enough for them to secure a place in the next round.
USA performed fairly well against France and a 3-0 scoreline perhaps flattered Thierry Henry’s young side. In contrast, NZ rode their luck a little against their African opponents and a win for the young Stars and Stripes side has appeal here.
The USA were guilty of not making the most of their chances against France and can put that right against New Zealand, who don’t have the same level of quality at the back.
A 2-1 win for the USA is the correct score pick as New Zealand have scored in each of their last five games, while Team USA have only managed two clean sheets in their last 10 games covering this year and 2023.
