Tottenham have been a tough team to judge this season but they put in a particularly abject performance in their midweek loss to Bournemouth and they could be set for more misery against London rivals Chelsea on Sunday.
Spurs are a real enigma right now as they followed up a defeat to Ipswich by thrashing Manchester City 4-0, but have failed to win any of their three games since that impressive result (D2, L1).
In contrast, Chelsea have been in fine form with four successive wins and going back further they have just one defeat in 10 across all competitions, (W7, D2).
The Blues have a fantastic recent record against Tottenham with 11 wins and just one defeat in the last 15 meetings. Chelsea won both league games last season and they can pile more pressure on Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou by claiming maximum points in North London on Sunday.
A 2-1 win for Chelsea is the correct score play here as Spurs rarely draw a blank at home. Only Arsenal have denied Spurs a goal in a home game this season and going back further only the Gunners and Man City have kept clean sheets as visiting sides at this venue in 2024, but they have conceded exactly twice in two of their last three home games and Chelsea have scored at least twice in each of their last three away.
Christopher Nkunku got the nod in attack in the 5-1 win at Southampton in midweek and repaid Maresca’s faith in him with a goal and an assist. That may not be enough to keep a starting spot at Spurs, however, and if Nicolas Jackson is recalled he looks a strong anytime scorer option. The Senegal international has eight goals in 13 Premier League games this season and has scored in each of his last two appearances, so back him to help fire Chelsea to victory.
