Both Celje and TNS remain in the hunt to reach the knockout stages of the Conference League, but the advantage is with the Slovenian champions, who sit a point above their Welsh opponents in the standings and boast an impressive home record.
Celje are unbeaten in all six of their home matches across all three European competitions this season, a run that includes their memorable 5-1 victory over Turkish giants Istanbul Basaksehir in this league phase.
Albert Riera’s side also earned a 3-3 draw with Polish outfit Jagiellonia Bialystok in their last home match in the Conference League and they will be confident that they can get the better of TNS, perhaps with something to spare.
European journey set to end for TNS
Only a win will be enough to give TNS a chance of reaching the knockout stages, but the omens are not good for Craig Harrison’s side, as they have lost each of their last three matches in the Conference League.
The Saints are yet to pick up a point on the road in the league phase, shipping two goals in losses at Fiorentina and Shamrock Rovers, while they were also beaten 2-0 by Panathinaikos in their last European fixture – a designated home game although played at Shrewsbury’s The Croud Meadow.
Another two goals could be conceded in Slovenia, and with TNS having also failed to score in three of their five matches in the league phase, a 2-0 home success appeals.
