Cambridge can cause problems at the Valley
Backing over 2.5 goals is the best bet when Charlton host Cambridge United in League One on Boxing Day in front of the Sky Sports cameras at The Valley.
Cambridge have conceded at least twice in three of their last four league games and are struggling defensively which points to a punt on overs. Each of their last three matches have gone over 3.5 goals, including the last away trip which finished 2-2 at Wrexham.
Charlton are 11th in the league, ten points above Cambridge in 22nd. The hosts have seven wins, six draws and seven defeats, while the visitors have just four wins from their 20 games this season.
Cambridge have failed to win any of their last four League One away games, while Charlton’s recent form at home has also been patchy, with no wins in their last four league games in front of their own supporters.
Overall, Charlton’s recent form has been up and down, with two wins, two draws and two defeats in their last six matches.
Charlton have not been watertight at the back, conceding in five of their last seven League One home games. They drew the last of those 0-0 with Mansfield but before that lost 2-1 at home to Crawley.
Neither side is in great form, so it might be worth taking a chance on Cambridge causing an upset in a game with plenty of goals. A 3-1 win for Cambridge is the way to go for correct-score bettors.
Two of their four victories this season have come by a two-goal margin.
