The Gunners have been solid on their travels this season, losing just twice away from home and recording a 5-1 win at Crystal Palace in their last fixture on the road. Arsenal not only dominated Palace at Selhurst Park, but they also recorded their highest away goal tally of the season.

This will be their ninth game in a row in London and, after winning six and drawing two of their previous eight capital clashes, they will go into this one as odds-on favourites. Arteta will still be without Bukayo Saka, but Riccardo Califiori looks set to return at left-back for this trip to the Gtech Community Stadium.

Bees suffer Christmas injury crisis

Meanwhile, Brentford manager Thomas Frank is dealing with a defensive injury crisis this Christmas after two more key players picked up fitness issues in his side’s 0-0 draw with Brighton on Friday evening.

Goalkeeper Mark Flekken and centre-back Ben Mee both came off against the Seagulls and look unlikely to feature, joining Ethan Pinnock, Kristoffer Ajer and Sepp van den Berg on the sidelines.  Frank was forced to deploy a makeshift back four against Brighton with winger Keane Lewis-Potter at full-back.

The Bees suffered their first home defeat of the campaign last time out when Nottingham Forest won 2-0 in west London. Although they had won seven and drawn one of their eight previous league games at home this season, that unbeaten record had looked unsustainable because of the amount of goals they were conceding.

Win to nil could be on the cards

Brentford have not kept a clean sheet at home all season and their shutout of the Seagulls was their first in six games. Those stats should be some comfort to Arteta, whose side have lost a lot of potency with Saka’s injury.

Arsenal should secure the points in a low-scoring contest that may follow a similar pattern to their 1-0 victory at Brentford last November when Kai Havertz grabbed a late winner. The Gunners have had the upper hand in this fixture, winning six of their last eight meetings with the Bees and keeping clean sheets in three of the last five.

The Gunners, who have kept four clean sheets in their last seven in all competitions, can secure a win to nil. And watch out for Martin Ødegaard, who is back on penalties in Saka’s absence, as a potential anytime goalscorer bet.
