Chesterfield have been on a worrying run of late, with a 2-1 defeat to MK Dons on New Year’s Day their third loss in a row.
However, Paul Cook’s side have been pretty bomb-proof at home in recent months, winning five of their last six outings at the SMH Group Stadium.
That run includes successes against Grimsby, Wimbledon and an emphatic 3-0 success against Tranmere, and that form means they sit only three points outside of the play-offs ahead of this round.
Gillingham’s away-day blues
That could be bad news for Gillingham, who arrive in Derbyshire having also lost three games in a row, going down to Colchester, Wimbledon and Bromley.
Even more worryingly, Mark Bonner’s side have failed to score in any of those outings, sinking into the bottom half of the table as a result.
And their away form inspires little confidence either, given the Gills have tasted success in just one of their last seven games on the road in the league, losing on five occasions.
I predict that Chesterfield will win this game, with 2-0 my correct score prediction.
