Strasbourg need to pull clear of trouble
It is hard to know exactly how relevant the formbook is ahead of this clash, given neither team has played since before Christmas due to the winter break in France.
However, it should act as a decent guide, and Strasbourg headed into that two-week hiatus on the back of successive 3-0 victories against Le Havre and RC Calais, the latter of which came in the cup.
Both of those wins were on the road, but they have been pretty decent at home this season, winning three of their seven Ligue 1 fixtures and losing just once.
That reversal came against Monaco in November whereas Liam Rosenior’s side have beaten Marseille, Rennes and Nantes at Stade de la Meinau.
Auxerre not enjoying themselves on the road
That does not bode well for opponents Auxerre, who have played seven away games since their return to the top flight in the summer, and lost five of them!
The only team they have beaten in an away league match so far is Marseille, back in November, which was followed by a 2-0 reversal to Toulouse last month.
That result was the start of an ongoing four-mach winless run for Christophe Pélissier’s side, including a shock 1-0 reversal to Dunkerque in the Coupe de France before Christmas.
I predict that Strasbourg will win this game, selecting 1-0 as a correct score prediction.
