Just one place and six points separated Nottingham Forest and Luton in the 2023/24 Premier League season but eight months is a long time in football and the pair have enjoyed polar campaigns this time around.
The Reds stayed up at the Hatters’ expense last term and to say they have kicked on since that narrow survival would be an understatement, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently sat third in the Premier League, level on points with second-placed Arsenal.
Luton, meanwhile, are struggling down in 20th in the Championship, just two points above the drop zone, showing just how detrimental relegation from the top flight can be.
Travel-sick Luton likely to struggle again
Unsurprisingly, Nottingham Forest are strong favourites for this clash and, while Santo’s main focus will be on the Premier League top-four race, the good feeling around the club should lead to a decent run at the FA Cup.
This third-round tie with Luton is unlikely to be much of a hurdle, given the Hatters have lost ten away games on the spin in a run which has seen them ship 27 goals.
