Prior to that, they had registered three successive victories on home soil, beating Freiburg (4-1), Borussia Dortmund (2-0) and Ferencvaros (2-0).
That form has helped move Dino Toppmöller’s side up to third place in the league ahead of this round, while in the Bundesliga, Frankfurt have won six times in nine outings at Commerzbank-Arena, losing just once.
Will Wolves bite back?
That is bad news for Wolfsburg, who could only draw 2-2 with struggling Holstein Kiel last time out, that on the back of a 3-2 reversal to Bayern Munich six days earlier.
Indeed, the visitors have lost three of their last half a dozen outings, with further losses coming against Freiburg and Dortmund, contributing to the side dropping to seventh in the table.
On top of that, the Wolves were beaten 2-1 when these two sides met in the return fixture earlier this season, meaning Frankfurt are chasing a first league double in their history.
