Back Blades to see off Boro
Two of the Championship’s biggest January spenders go head-to-head at Bramall Lane on Wednesday, with second-placed Sheffield United taking on playoff hopefuls Middlesbrough.
Unsurprisingly, given their league position, the Blades come into this clash as favourites and, having added the likes of Tom Cannon, Harry Clarke, Ben Brereton Diaz and Rob Holding to an already talent-filled squad, they should justify that tag.
Chris Wilder’s side have been exceptional all term and the bonus of playing at Bramall Lane, where they have won 11 of their 15 Championship outings this term, should see them exact revenge for their 1-0 defeat in October’s reverse fixture.
Middlesbrough may net in defeat
Middlesbrough may have taken the spoils that day but Emmanuel Latte Lath, who has since departed, grabbed the only goal of the game and it is not guaranteed that his replacements, Kelechi Iheanacho and Morgan Whittaker, will hit the ground running.
Michael Carrick will be hoping they can as Boro’s current run of form must be rectified if they are to achieve their goal of a top-six finish, with a run of three wins in 12 Championship games seeing them slide out of the playoff places recently.
With Middlesbrough losing four of their last five games in all competitions, it seems likely the points will stay in Sheffield as the Blades look set to edge a thriller 2-1.
