West Ham have improved enough under Graham Potter to warrant support in Saturday’s London derby against Brentford. The Hammers looked a decent side when they were last in action a fortnight ago and could get the better of the Bees if that performance at Stamford Bridge is repeated at London Stadium.
Potter was unable to take anything from the clash with his former club Chelsea when West Ham were on the wrong end of a couple of refereeing/VAR calls. The referee missed a clear foul on Jarrod Bowen in the build-up to the Blues’ equalising goal, which also took a long time to be confirmed by VAR because of a tight offside call.
Chelsea’s eventual winner was just as cruel as Cole Palmer’s cross took a wicked deflection to loop over Alphonse Areola. West Ham could have nicked a deserved point in stoppage time when Mohammed Kudus’ goal-bound effort was blocked a few yards out and, on the back of a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa, that performance suggest Potter has the team moving in the right direction.

Meanwhile, Brentford suffered defeat at the hands of a hapless Spurs team last time, although they have won their last two away games.
Thomas Frank has never beaten Potter in six previous attempts with the Englishman guiding his Swansea and Brighton teams to five wins with a 0-0 draw in a west London derby while in charge of Chelsea.
The Bees have blown hot and cold this season and their current form is hard to read. They have lost five of their last nine Premier League games, winning two and drawing two.
Hosts are backable to beat Brentford
One of those draws was a remarkable comeback from two down to draw with Manchester City and the other a dull goalless game with Brighton while their wins came against struggling Southampton and Crystal Palace.
But their home defeat to an injury-hit and confidence-sapped Spurs does not look good given Ange Postecoglu’s team had taken one point from a possible 21 in their previous seven games. West Ham have got some players back from injury this week and the arrival of Evan Ferguson has given them a lift too.
They are backable to claim all three points in this clash with a 2-1 scoreline potentially the final outcome because they don’t look like keeping a clean sheet yet under Potter. Mind you, many would have said that about Tottenham when they went to Brentford.
