There is value to be had in backing Bristol City as underdogs to beat Millwall at the Den on Tuesday as the Lions look to close the four-point gap to the Robins in the Championship. This feels like a game that Alex Neil’s side have to win if they are to maintain their playoff push.
Saturday’s 3-1 FA Cup defeat at Crystal Palace saw them lose club record signing Camiel Neghli to an injury and he looks to be a major doubt for this midweek clash.
Neil will be able to call upon Aaron Connolly and Tristan Crama, who were cup-tied at Selhurst Park, while the suspension incurred by goalkeeper Liam Roberts for his reckless challenge on Jean-Philippe Mateta will not be a problem as first-choice custodian Lukas Jensen returns.
Robins could earn a rare away win
Bristol City had the weekend off and should be fitter and fresher for this trip to South London. Liam Manning’s side are in good form after two wins in their last three games, including a solid 2-1 home win over playoff rivals Middlesbrough last time out.
Their away form is not so hot with the Robins having failed to win each of their last nine road games in the league, but they were denied three points at Cardiff last month by a stoppage-time leveller.
Results-wise, the form points to a draw in this clash too with two of Millwall’s last three home league games finishing all square and five of City’s last seven away trips ending level. But the manner in which Manning’s men outplayed Millwall at Ashton Gate earlier this season was impressive and their expected greater energy levels could make the difference on Tuesday too.
