Back goals in key title clash
Atalanta’s attacking prowess should ensure goals when they host Inter at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday in a huge game at the top of Serie A. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side lead Serie A in goals this season, with 63 in 28 games, and backing over 2.5 goals looks the best bet.
Inter are top of Serie A, two places above Atalanta, but just three points separate the two sides. The leaders have won 18 of their 28 games this season, while Atalanta have 17 wins.
Atalanta are in good form, having gone seven games without defeat in Serie A and they won 4-0 against Juventus last weekend. However, Inter have won their last five league clashes with Atalanta, so there are reasons for the teams to be feeling confident.
Both teams have issues at the back which should open up goalscoring opportunities. Atalanta have failed to keep a clean sheet in 17 of their last 20 meetings against Inter, who themselves have kept just two clean sheets in their last ten league games.
The two teams are prolific in attack. Atalanta have scored three or more goals in ten of their 28 games this season, while no Serie A team has found the net in more games than Inter’s total of 26.
There have been over 2.5 goals in 17 of Inter’s 28 Serie A games this season and there were five goals in their clash with Monza last weekend, when they won 3-2.
Atalanta may be able to edge out Inter in a close encounter, with a 2-1 home win the correct-score pick. Inter beat Atalanta 4-0 last time they met in Serie A, but both sides scored in four of the previous six and home advantage could be key in such a massive match.
