Newcastle look Champions League-bound
Newcastle crushed Crystal Palace 5-0 on Wednesday evening to make it six wins in a row across all competitions and they continue their quest for a top four finish at Aston Villa in the late game on Saturday.
Villa also won their own midweek assignment as they overcame Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at this venue, but that wasn’t enough to overturn a two-goal deficit from the first leg.
With fifth spot good enough for a place at Europe’s top table, Villa still have a decent chance of returning to the Champions League next season but they may find in-form Newcastle too strong on Saturday.
Magpies can continue Villa dominance
Newcastle are flying and they have a fantastic recent record against the Villans. The EFL Cup winners won the reverse fixture 3-0 back in December and they did the league double over Villa last season, winning 8-2 on aggregate.
Villa put a lot into their 3-2 win over PSG, whereas Newcastle should be the fresher of the two sides after strolling to victory against Palace.
As such, a win for the visitors looks a strong play in the late Premier League game this weekend.
Goals at both ends looks likely
Newcastle have managed back-to-back away clean sheets in the league but Villa have a bit more in attack than their last two opponents on the road, West Ham and Leicester.
Unai Emery’s men are unbeaten in 18 at home and they haven’t drawn a blank in front of their own fans since October.
Villa should be able to get on the scoresheet, but as Newcastle have been a bit of a bogey team for the Midlands outfit a 2-1 win for the visitors looks a reasonable correct score prediction as Villa haven’t conceded more than twice in any home game this season.
