Mission impossible for Vizela
The second leg of the promotion/relegation Liga Portugal play-off takes place on Sunday and Vizela’s hopes of moving up a division appear slim after a 3-0 defeat in the first leg.
Vizela had a lot of possession in the first half without creating any serious chances, and AVS did the damage in the second half with three goals in the space of eight minutes.
The scoreline perhaps flattered AVS but that is irrelevant going into the second leg as they don’t need to win this game. The visitors will probably try and defend what they have, rather than take any risks, but that should open some chances on the counter and backing both teams to score looks the best angle here.
There have been goals at both ends in each of Vizela’s last five home games and they were generally strong in attack at home all season, hitting 26 goals in 17 home fixtures in the second tier.
AVS have already demonstrated they have the quality to hurt their hosts, and as they shipped on averages exactly two goals per-game on their travels in the top flight they may struggle to keep Vizela at bay at the other end – particularly as the hosts have no choice other than to go for it.
AVS should largely be able to hold out, however, and a 1-1 draw looks a reasonable correct score prediction. There wasn’t a great deal to separate these sides in the first leg and Vizela’s last three home games have all finished 1-1.
