The whole season may easily be on the line for Everton and Southampton this Saturday when they are set to lock horns in a massive six-pointer at Goodison Park.
This is the clash between two bottom-three sides who are separated by three points going into it.
Southampton are in a tougher position, sitting at the very foot of the Premier League ladder. A potential defeat here would represent one big step towards Championship football next season.
Neither team have impressed of late in the league, although it is worth mentioning that the Saints have managed to pick up a 1-2 victory away at Crystal Palace in the last weekend’s FA Cup action.
It was a very important victory confidence-wise for Nathan Jones and his troops. They have lost each of three Premier League games since the restart after the World Cup break despite facing the likes of Brighton, Fulham, and Nottingham Forest along the way.
Everton, on the other side, had a much tougher schedule facing the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United in two of the last three games in all competitions.
They did somehow manage to avoid a defeat at Etihad Stadium, holding the defending champions to a 1-1 stalemate on the last day of 2022.
Nevertheless, Everton did concede seven goals in the previous two defeats to Brighton (1-4 in the league) and Manchester United (3-1 in the FA Cup).
