Samsunspor will be looking for their first top-flight win in more than 11 years as they play host to Istanbulspor on Sunday afternoon at Samsun Yeni 19 Mayis Stadyumu.
The hosts returned to the elite tier of Turkish football after winning the previous term of 1. Lig. Nevertheless, they did not get off to a promising start to the new campaign among elite.
Huseyin Eroglu’s men managed to claim just one point from the opening three rounds, scoring no more than two goals in the process.
The latest of Samsun’s failures came seven days ago when they fell 2-1 away at Kayserispor, registering no more than a single shot on target in the 90 minutes of play on the occasion.
Istanbulspor, on the other side, had their last weekend’s league game postponed which is why they faced local rivals Istanbul Basaksehir in a friendly eight days ago (a 1-0 win).
