Sheffield United have won their last five home league matches without conceding
Sheffield Wednesday have failed to score in all three of their away league matches against top-10 opponents
Five of the last seven Steel City derbies have featured fewer than three goals
Relentless Blades can take the derby spoils
Sheffield United are likely to prove too strong for their rivals from Sheffield Wednesday in Sunday’s Steel City derby at Bramall Lane. A cracking atmosphere is guaranteed given the Blades are flying high in second place and the Owls have won their last two away games.
Dany Rohl’s men also earned three points in midweek at home to a pretty good Norwich City side, so they will not go into the clash without hope.
But Chris Wilder’s team seem relentless at the moment, having won eight of their last 11 Championship games, including each of their last three. Tuesday’s late turnaround at Ashton Gate will ensure the home side are in confident mood ahead of this clash.
Goals at a premium in United games
The Blades have won their last five league matches at Bramall Lane without conceding and it is tempting to back them to win to nil again given the Owls have failed to score in all three of their away league matches against top-10 opponents.
But backing the home side to win with fewer than three goals in the game is a variation on that theme that pays at greater odds without too much more risk. Wilder’s side have not scored more than twice since a 4-2 Carabao Cup win over League One Wrexham 15 games ago.
It is also probably pertinent that five of the last seven Steel City derbies have featured fewer than three goals.
